Graduation
Caps and Gowns
Caps and Gowns
Ordering Caps and Gowns
Can I wear a previously worn cap and gown from a friend or sibling?
- It is ok for students to use a purple cap and gown that was recently used by a friend or sibling who graduated from North. If you are borrowing a cap and gown, you may want to still consider purchasing a “souvenir tassel” (which is the one graduates will wear on their cap and includes the graduation year). The “mascot tassel” that Jostens offers is not meant to be worn on the graduation cap; it is meant to be a keepsake. If you are borrowing a cap and gown that was recently used at one of our graduation ceremonies, please note that you’ll need to purchase a new stole. The stole design has changed beginning with the Class of 2025. Students who planned to reuse a stole from a previous graduation (before 2025) must purchase the current version.
Graduation Distinctions
- In early spring, seniors will find out if they’ve met the requirements for one of our graduation distinctions. If they do, a gold tassel, gold stole, or gold cords may replace one of the standard ordered items. As long as you’ve paid for a tassel and stole, or purchased a cap-and-gown unit, we’ll replace the items for you and ensure you have what you need. The graduation distinctions will be based on a student’s cumulative weighted GPA at the end of seven academic semesters. Student GPAs will not be rounded for these honors. Due to the time it takes to calculate these GPAs once grades are finalized, in addition to ordering and distributing the appropriate regalia, these honors are based on a student’s cumulative GPA after the fall semester of their senior year.
-
A senior will graduate with “Honors” if their cumulative weighted GPA is between 3.4 and 3.99. This student will wear a gold tassel at graduation.
-
A senior will graduate with “High Honors” if their cumulative weighted GPA is between 4.0 and 4.39. This student will wear a gold tassel and gold cords at graduation.
-
A senior will graduate with “Distinguished Honors” if their cumulative weighted GPA is 4.4 and above. This student will wear a gold tassel, gold cords, and gold stole at graduation.
-
Cap and Gown Distribution
- All cap and gown orders will be distributed after school on Tuesday, May 5, in the Commons. Jostens will be on-site at our event for any last-second cap and gown purchases. If you have questions about ordering a cap and gown, please contact the Student Activities Office.

Graduation
Graduation
Sunday, May 17, 2026
Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 17, at noon on Carstens Field. A livestream will be available on YouTube for those unable to attend. The recording will remain available for later viewing. There is no limit to the number of guests when the ceremony is held outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the Purple Gym. Each graduate will receive four graduation tickets, which will only be needed if the ceremony is indoors. Tickets will be handed out during our cap and gown distribution. Lost or damaged tickets will not be replaced.
Commencement is a dignified ceremony, and it is important to dress in a manner consistent with the tradition of formality on this occasion. While all students are required to wear the official District 99 regalia–our purple gown, purple cap, and purple & white stole and tassel- it is important that students dress in a formal manner on this occasion beneath their Commencement gowns as well. We strongly encourage students to wear collared shirts and ties, dress shoes, dress pants, and/or skirts or dresses. Additionally, please be aware that heels are prohibited in the stadium to protect the turf; however, wedges and flats are permitted.
Graduates being recognized for various academic distinctions will wear gold regalia. Students who have earned this distinction will have their purchased regalia swapped out with the gold item(s). The distinctions mentioned below are determined by weighted GPA after the seventh academic semester.
- Honors (cumulative 3.4 GPA and above): gold tassel
- High Honors (cumulative 4.0-4.39 GPA): gold tassel & gold cord
- Distinguished Honors (cumulative 4.4 GPA and above): gold tassel, gold cord, and gold stole
Please read these guidelines regarding appropriate graduation regalia.
