Graduation
Caps and Gowns
Caps and Gowns
Ordering Caps and Gowns
- Click here for a shortcut to our school’s graduation products. Scroll down the page and look for the “Cap and Gown” subheading, that’s where you’ll find all of the essential items for our graduates. If you are only looking to purchase what’s needed for the graduation ceremony, the package you’ll want to purchase is the “Cap, Gown, NEW Stole, Tassel Unit.” This includes everything students will wear for graduation. This package includes a purple gown, purple cap, white (new style) stole, and souvenir tassel. If you order it by December 15, it’s $48.50 plus tax. You’ll find many other graduation packages on that page with various products. Feel free to purchase anything you’d like, but if you’re just looking for what’s necessary then you’ll want to only purchase the “Cap, Gown, NEW Stole, Tassel Unit.”
Can I wear a previously worn cap and gown from a friend or sibling?
- It is ok for students to use a purple cap and gown that was recently used by a friend or sibling who graduated from North. If you are borrowing a cap and gown you may want to still consider purchasing a “souvenir tassel” (which is the one graduates will wear on their cap and includes the graduation year). The “mascot tassel” that Jostens offers is not meant to be worn on the graduation cap, it is meant to be a keepsake. If you are borrowing a cap and gown that was recently used during one of our graduation ceremonies, please be aware that you’ll need to purchase one of the new stoles. If you are looking to purchase a “souvenir tassel” or “new stole” they can be found at this link under the “Cap & Gown” subheading. Please note, the image shown for the “new stole” has not been updated on the Jostens site. Rest assured that when you order one you’ll receive the correct style and color.
Graduation Distinctions
- In early spring, seniors will find out if they’ve met the requirements for one of our graduation distinctions. If they do, a gold tassel, gold stole, or gold cords may replace one of the standard ordered items. As long as you’ve paid for a tassel and stole, or purchased a cap and gown unit, we’ll replace the items for you and ensure you have what you need. The graduation distinctions will be based on a student’s cumulative weighted GPA at the end of seven academic semesters. Student GPAs will not be rounded for these honors. Due to the time it takes to calculate these GPAs once grades are finalized, in addition to ordering and distributing the appropriate regalia, these honors are based on a student’s cumulative GPA after the fall semester of their senior year.
-
A senior will graduate with “Honors” if their cumulative weighted GPA is between 3.4 and 3.99. This student will wear a gold tassel at graduation.
-
A senior will graduate with “High Honors” if their cumulative weighted GPA is between 4.0 and 4.39. This student will wear a gold tassel and gold cords at graduation.
-
A senior will graduate with “Distinguished Honors” if their cumulative weighted GPA is 4.4 and above. This student will wear a gold tassel, gold cords, and gold stole at graduation.
-
Cap and Gown Distribution
- All cap and gown orders will be distributed on Tuesday, May 6th, after school in the Commons. Jostens will be onsite at our event for any last-second cap and gown purchases.
Graduation Rehearsal
Graduation Rehearsal
Monday, May 12 from 3:30 - 4:45 PMTwo brief graduation rehearsals will take place on Monday, May 12, for all students who plan to participate in our graduation ceremony. Please note that students are expected to attend both rehearsals that day. Our rehearsals will take place immediately before and after our Spotlight Assembly. The first rehearsal will take place during 7th and 8th periods. Students will meet in the Fieldhouse. This rehearsal will prepare seniors for the Spotlight Assembly and an indoor graduation ceremony, should inclement weather move the ceremony inside the day of graduation. Immediately following the Spotlight Assembly, we will ask all students to stay until roughly 4:00, when we will prepare for an outdoor graduation ceremony. These rehearsals are mandatory for all who plan to graduate. Seniors are asked to plan ahead so that they can attend the rehearsal until 4:00. Anyone who has a conflict preventing them from being in attendance should reach out to Mr. Mirandola.
Graduation
Graduation
Sunday, May 18 at 12 PMOur graduation ceremony will take place Sunday, May 18, at noon on Carstens Field. There is no limit to the number of family and friends in attendance at the graduation ceremony when it is held outside. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Purple Gym. Each graduate will receive 4 graduation tickets, which will only be needed for an indoor ceremony. The 4 graduation tickets will be distributed during cap and gown pickup on May 6. Please keep your tickets in a safe place as we will not replace lost or damaged tickets.
Commencement is a dignified ceremony, and it is important to dress in a manner consistent with the tradition of formality on this occasion. While all students are required to wear the official District 99 regalia–our purple gown, purple cap, and purple and white stole and tassel—it is important that students dress in a formal manner on this occasion beneath their Commencement gowns as well.
Graduates being recognized for various academic distinctions will wear gold regalia:
- Honors (cumulative 3.4 GPA and above): gold tassel
- High Honors (cumulative 4.0-4.39 GPA): gold tassel & gold cord
- Distinguished Honors (cumulative 4.4 GPA and above): gold tassel, gold cord, and gold stole
For those unable to attend the event, a live stream of the ceremony will be available on YouTube. The video of our graduation ceremony will remain on YouTube for later viewing.
