Workshops for Parents

District 99 will be offering CRISS workshops during the 2012-13 school year. The workshops are designed for parents to help students develop effective learning strategies.

The first workshop will take place on Thursday, September 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Woodridge Community Center, located at 8274 Janes Avenue in Woodridge. 

Project CRISS (CReating Independence through Student-owned Strategies) is a training program designed to help all students read, write, and learn more effectively. The premise of the program is that teaching students how to learn is everyone's responsibility and that this instruction can be done very effectively with the help of our parent partners.

"Our CRISS workshops give parents a better understanding of practical ways to help, such as how to take effective notes, that will support their student's learning process," says Dr. Judy Minor, assistant superintendent for student learning at District 99.

Future workshops will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at South High School and Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at North High School. All workshops will run from 7-9 p.m.
