2013-2014 Course Selection Information

 

Students will have an individual registration appointment with their counselor as outlined in the schedule below.  The course selection appointment with the counselor is just one piece of the registration process.   Below is a timeline of the entire 2013-2014 registration process.

 

Prior to January 16, 2013                 

Teachers meet with students and make recommendations for 2013-2014 courses.  Please contact individual teachers with any questions or concerns regarding student course recommendations.

 

January 24, 2013                               

Advisement Day:  Counselors will visit all English classes to explain the registration process, which includes handing out a course selection worksheet.

 

January 24, 2013                              

Course recommendations become available on Home Access Center for current students in the Class of 2014, 2015 and 2016.  Recommendations are based upon standardized test scores, first semester grades and/or teacher recommendations. 

 

January 29 and 30, 2013   

Counselor Registration Appointments for the Class of 2016 (current Freshmen) during their PE class to select 2013-2014 courses.

 

February 4, 5, 6  7, 8, 2013             

Counselor Registration Appointments for the Class of 2014 (current Juniors) during their English class to select 2013-2014 courses.

 

February 7, 2013

Class of 2017 Open House: Incoming 9th grade students and their parents/guardians will receive course recommendations and have an opportunity to learn more about curricular and co-curricular options.

 

Feburary 9, 2013

Counselor Registration Appointments for the Class of 2017 (current 8th grade students) to select 2013-2014 courses.

 

February 11, 12, 13, 2013                

Counselor Registration Appointments for the Class of 2015 (current Sophomores) during their U.S. History class to select 2013-2014 courses.   

 

PLEASE NOTE:                     

Once courses have been selected, changes will only be made for the following reasons: enrollment process error, failure in a prerequisite course, successful completion of a summer school course or scheduling conflicts.

 

March 2013                                  

Decisions will be made concerning what courses will be offered based on enrollment.  Some students may need to meet with their counselor to select a different course if a course has been cancelled due to under enrollment or has been closed due to over enrollment.

 

April/May 2013    

Some students will need to meet with their counselor during this time to assist in resolving a schedule conflict.  Students may need to select a different course to resolve the conflict in their schedule.

 

End of May 2013      

A copy of a student’s 2013-2014 courses will be mailed home along with the English Summer Reading list.   Any questions or concerns should be communicated to your student’s counselor prior to the first day of school.           

 

August 2013   

All students must report on Schedule Pick-Up Day (date to be determined)  to resolve any outstanding balances and to pick up their final schedule  Course changes will only be made for the following reasons: enrollment process error, failure in a prerequisite course, successful completion of summer school course or scheduling conflicts.  

Once the school year begins, a student must go through the formal drop process in order to have a class removed from their schedule.  Course drops cannot be initiated until the end of the 4th week of any given semester.   A student will not be allowed to drop a course, if, in doing so, he or she would fall below the 6 credit class minimum requirement.
