District 99 Schools to Host Holiday Concerts and Art Shows
District 99 schools are preparing for their upcoming holiday concerts and art shows. The combined concerts will feature over 1,000 student musicians and visual artists presenting for an anticipated audience of 3,000 members of the community.
The public is cordially invited to attend all of the events. Admission is free.
Holiday Concerts
On Tuesday, December 6, North High School will host its “Holiday Mosaic Concert” in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium at North High School. Attendees may choose from one of two performances: 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
On Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m., South High School will host its “Holiday Concert” in the Main Gymnasium at South High School.
Concerts at both schools will feature a variety of musicians, including bands, choirs and the District 99 orchestra, as well as a variety of chamber music ensembles. Each concert will last approximately one hour.
Both evenings will conclude with a combined rendition of Handel's “Hallelujah!”, a tradition in Downers Grove since 1929.
Art Shows
Each high school will also showcase the visual artwork of student artists next week, including works in ceramics, digital photography, painting and drawing and more.
At North High School, the “Holiday Mosaic Art Show” will begin on Tuesday, December 6 in the North High Main Street Lobby and continue throughout the week. A reception will take place on Wednesday, December 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
At South High School, the “Winter Art Show” opening will be held on Thursday, December 8 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the South High Events Foyer, and run through Sunday, December 11.
“Between the sights in the foyers and the sounds in the venues, those who attend are guaranteed to be moved by the artistic excellence of our young artists in District 99,” says North High’s Fine Arts Chair Brayer Teague.
“We look forward to welcoming community members into our schools during this joyous time of year,” adds South High’s Fine Arts Chair Glenn Williams.
